Middle School Athletics

Participation in team and individual sports not only promotes a feeling of family and belonging, but it allows students to develop themselves physically and emotionally. Students gain strength and skills and have the opportunity to develop leadership skills while learning the art of good sportsmanship and fair play.

Welcome to the Hale-Ray Noises! We are proud members of the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference and registered participants in the state’s Unified Sports program. Here you’ll find basic information about our middle school sports program and the forms needed to participate. If you have any questions, please contact our athletics director, Michael Boworth.

We are listed on the CIAC website as “Nathan Hale-Ray Middle School.”

Eligibility

Participating in extracurricular activities, like sports, is a privilege at Nathan Hale-Ray that depends on students maintaining academic excellence, a positive attitude, and good citizenship.

Students with Ds or Fs on their progress or report cards may not participate in school sports. (Students in grades four and five who do not have progress reports may need teacher permission to participate.) Students must not have any current discipline referrals. We will place student-athletes who cannot meet these requirements or who fail to maintain these requirements on probation and help that student create an action plan to remedy the failure.

Each year, participating students must also complete a physical exam, turn in signed parent permission slips, and attend a concussion and cardiac protocol meeting with their parents/guardians prior to playing sports. Physical exams are valid for 13 months. Athletic packets may be turned in to the guidance counselor prior to the start of the season.

BIG TEAM Little Me

The goal of our program is to make a significant contribution to the personal growth and development of every student-athlete.  We strive to build student knowledge of the sport and of self, contribute to their ethical and leadership maturation, and motivate them in the pursuit of excellence. We do that through a variety of team sports including the following:

Fall Sports
Boys and Girls Soccer
Boys and Girls Cross Country
Girls Volleyball

Winter Sports
Boys and Girls Basketball
Cheerleading

Spring Sports
