New to Special Education

Welcome to the Pupil Services Department. It is an honor to serve our students, families, and schools as your Director for the East Haddam Public Schools.
I recognize that navigating school systems, particularly when a child has unique learning, social-emotional, behavioral, or health needs, can be challenging, emotional, and at times overwhelming for families. Parents and caregivers know their children best, and your experiences, insights, and concerns matter deeply. My commitment is to ensure that your voices are heard, respected, and meaningfully included in all decision-making processes.
Our department is dedicated to working collaboratively with families, educators, and community partners to support the whole child. We strive to provide services that are student-centered, equitable, and grounded in best practices, while maintaining transparency and clarity every step of the way. We are committed to open communication, timely support, and clear explanations of processes so families feel informed and empowered.
At the heart of our work is a shared goal: helping every student access the supports they need to learn, grow, and thrive. I encourage families to view us as partners and advocates, and I welcome your questions, feedback, and collaboration as we work together to support student success.
Thank you for trusting us with the care and education of your children. I look forward to working alongside you.

Respectfully,
Wendy McCabe
Pupil Services Director
