Health Services
At East Haddam Schools, we are fully committed to our students’ health. Our health services staff looks after every student’s physical and mental well-being while on our campus.
Administration of Medication
Students may need to be administered medication during school hours. Unless a doctor has indicated that a student is able to self-administer, medication must be maintained in the school health office. Parents should make the school nurse aware of any condition a student has and must make the nurse aware of any condition requiring medication to be administered in school.
- Medication must be in its original container and properly labeled with the original label or pharmacy label. Medication must also be accompanied by a doctor’s order outlining the dosage, frequency, and any additional information a nurse may need to dispense medication.
- A consent form signed by the parent must also accompany any medication that the school will administer.
- The school nurse maintains some over-the-counter medication for students, such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, Benadryl, etc. to address the occasional need. The school’s medical advisor has approved use of any OTC medication through standing orders. A parent must provide consent to the nurse before any OTC medication may be administered to their child.
- Sunscreen is considered an over-the-counter medication. We require parental permission for children age six and older to apply sunscreen to themselves.
Fill out or upload medical forms via East Haddam’s PowerSchool parent portal.
Immunization Information
We will notify parents of continuing students by mail, email, or Parent Square if your child needs additional immunizations before the new school year. State law requires students to complete all required immunizations before school starts. For the safety of all students, we cannot allow students who cannot provide proof of required immunizations to attend school or ride the bus on the first day of classes. Please submit immunization updates to the school office.
