Special Services

Every child has the right to a free, appropriate, public education.

Special Services programs include a variety of academic instructional alternatives and related services such as school psychologist, speech, language, and hearing services, health services, physical and occupational therapy, and special education transportation.

Additional services include early assessment and identification, guidance services, Title I, elementary and middle school gifted and talented program, and homebound instruction.

A student identified as a possible candidate for Special Services in the East Haddam Public Schools is referred to a student assistance team and, if appropriate, to a multi-disciplinary team, or to a Planning and Placement Team.

With parental permission, the team determines the student’s special needs and develops an appropriate individualized program in the least restrictive environment in conjunction with the parent.

East Haddam provides developmental screens to all three and four year olds during the school year. If a parent has any concerns regarding the development of their child, they should call the elementary school to set up an appointment with the preschool staff.
