Instruction
Drugs, Tobacco, Alcohol
Recent
studies have indicated that there has been a rapid increase in the use of
harmful drugs among our young people, and even among our children, with an
especially rapid increase in the use of alcohol. Since the use of harmful drugs may have a deleterious effect on
the health and welfare of the users, their families and society, the Board of
Education desires that every effort be made by all members of the school system
staff to reduce the chances that our students will begin or continue use of
such harmful drugs, tobacco, and alcohol.
The
professional staff should become aware of the problem, the recognition of the
symptoms of such use, and should emphasize the dangers of such use wherever
appropriate in the health education program and in such other contexts which
touch on the subject.
It
is desired that the administration seek the full cooperation with community
agencies wherever such cooperation can work to the advantage of our students in
this area.
