Guidelines Pertaining to Overdue, Damaged or Lost Instructional Materials

It is the obligation of the Board of Education to guarantee that students have the necessary books and materials required for effective learning.

As part of its effort to meet that obligation the Board of Education will hold students and parents accountable for the care of textbooks, library materials or other educational materials that have been loaned to students.

School principals are authorized to charge students for damaged or lost textbooks, library materials or other educational materials and may withhold grades, transcripts or report cards until restitution is made.

Principals will notify parents, guardians or emancipated students of the cost of replacement of any overdue, damaged or lost instructional materials.  This notice will indicate that grades, transcripts and report cards may be withheld until restitution is made and will set a date for such restitution.

All payments for such instructional material(s) shall be by check and payable to the East Haddam Board of Education.
