Guidelines
Pertaining to Overdue, Damaged or Lost Instructional Materials
It
is the obligation of the Board of Education to guarantee that students have the
necessary books and materials required for effective learning.
As
part of its effort to meet that obligation the Board of Education will hold
students and parents accountable for the care of textbooks, library materials
or other educational materials that have been loaned to students.
School
principals are authorized to charge students for damaged or lost textbooks,
library materials or other educational materials and may withhold grades,
transcripts or report cards until restitution is made.

Guidelines
Pertaining to Overdue, Damaged or Lost Instructional Materials
In
the case of lost or overdue materials, school principals will notify parents,
guardians or emancipated students of the loss and request that a thorough
search be conducted at home.
Principals
will notify parents, guardians or emancipated students of the cost of
replacement of any overdue, damaged or lost instructional materials. This notice will indicate that grades,
transcripts and report cards may be withheld until restitution is made and will
set a date for such restitution.
All
payments for such instructional material(s) shall be by check and payable to
the East Haddam Board of Education.
A
decision on whether or not the materials are replaced will be made by the
Superintendent or his/her designee.
