Reporting to Parents
The Board of Education believes that good communication between parent
and teacher is important to the educational process. Regular reports,
therefore, will be sent to the parent of each child informing the parent of the
student's performance.
It shall be the duty of the teacher to notify the parent whenever a
student is doing any work that, in the judgment of the teacher, will endanger
the student’s promotion. The teacher shall preserve copies of such notification
until the question of the student’s promotion is definitely settled. (cf.
5145.8 - re eighteen year old students).
Discrepancies between ability and performance and potential failures
shall be reported as soon as determined and as often as required during the
school year.
Progress Reports
Progress reports are sent to high school and middle school parents each
quarter mid-way between report cards. These progress reports should be signed
by the parent and returned to the teacher from whom the report was issued.
Progress reports should be issued to students for excellent work and
significant improvement in work as well as for academic problems.
Parent Conferences
Parent communication is of the utmost importance and frequent
parent-teacher conferences are strongly suggested. It is only through mutual
understanding between parent, child and teacher that we can fully achieve our
goals as educators. Parents should be encouraged to visit classes or special
events as often as possible.
Parent-teacher conference dates shall be established during the fall and
winter of each school for the elementary school and middle school. High school
parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled during the fall only. Each
teacher, with the approval of the administration, will set up his/her own
conference times.
Half-day sessions will be held on conference days to facilitate
parent-teacher conferences. Remaining conferences will have to be scheduled
during the evening hours or by special arrangement.
Report Cards
Report cards for high school and middle school students will be issued
four times per year as dictated by the approved school calendar. Elementary
school reports will be issued three times per year and should reflect the
developmental needs of each particular grade.
